If you are a drug addict and wish to join a drug rehab center but you worry about how a typical day you’ll need to follow then this article is for you.

Obviously, there are different types of drug abuse treatment process depending on your addiction level but here we are going to discuss the standard treatment process. In standard treatment, the addicts are allotted a residential-like area. These residential centers are highly structured and organized that carries out activities and therapy sessions at the majority of the centers. As every rehab center has this in common, it minimizes stress and uncertainty while at the same time it offers the safest and most supportive environment for healing and recovery. Daily activities may vary depending on the settings and amenities offered.

Getting a Coach

Jason Shiers from Wide World Coaching says “ having a coach that understands addiction can help guide you back to your own wisdom and find new ways of coping rather than returning to old habitual ways of living”

Morning Routine:

Generally sleeping is not a part of a rehab program, so one has to get up early in the morning and enjoy a healthy breakfast. Some rehab centers offer morning classes like yoga or meditation with an aim to help you begin the day in a relaxed state of mind.

This is then followed by a group of sessions that is led by a therapist or counselor who focuses on the topics that are related to the treatment process, addiction and recovery as well. Also, they discuss the issues that led an addict towards alcoholism.

These daily morning meetings are carried out in a safe therapeutic environment that helps addicts or drug victims to recognize behavior patterns to avoid post-treatment.

Afternoon Routine:

A series of therapeutic sessions starts after having a healthy lunch. This middle of the day routine provides the most intensive form of treatment.

It includes Individual behavioral therapy, group therapy, specialized sessions and family therapy.

Individual behavioral therapy

In this, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, popularly termed as CBT, is the most effective method used in addiction treatment centers. CBT sharpens the behavioral responses to specific triggers. As soon as these are identified, the therapist will guide towards new, healthier responses to those triggers.

Group therapy

Group sessions offer companionship to the participants, as all of them have surely experienced the struggles of addiction. It gives a room for emotional healing to the participants as they share their own personal stories with each other. As the trust grows, the participants become more and more open while developing compassion and understanding for each other’s battles.

 Specialized therapy sessions

Specialized therapy sessions are offered by some of the treatment centers. This can be specially designed for stress management, anger management or grief counseling for handling any related issues in a controlled manner.

Family therapy

Family support is the most crucial factor in the drug rehab process. In general, addiction affects the entire family and ends up with soaring up the relations between family members and drug addicts. So in family therapy sessions a number of issues are resolved and at the same time feelings are addressed. This gives a huge support to the victim.

Other alternative therapy forms include-

  •       Dance therapy
  •       Art or music therapy
  •       Dance therapy
  •       Neuro feedback
  •       Bio feedback
  •       Exercise programs

In between, if there is some free time available then activities like volleyball, basketball, pool or ping-pong, soccer or any other games are played. Some rehab centers also have swimming pools. Some spend this free time in reading or journaling while others use this time for meditation and praying.

Evening Routine

After dinner, there is another group session. The meetings or gatherings are organized in a safe, respectful and anonymous environment. This helps drug addicts to gain confidence.

Thus, this is how a typical routine needs to be followed by drug addicts at rehab centers.
