Dr. Surinder Kumar (S.K.) Sama is a renowned Gastroenterologist from New Delhi. He has paved the way in the field of research on liver diseases. He enjoys the credit for having introduced a new disease entity “Non Cirrhotic Portal Fibrosis” to the world. An MBBS, MD and DM in Gastroenterology, he has been the first from India to have organized International Symposium on Hepatitis Bat World Health Organisation; Dr. Sama joined Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in 1974 and established the now internationally known, department of Gastroenterology.
Dr. SK Sama is a life member of ISG, ISLD, ISGE and American Gastroenterology Association. He was the President of ISG (1986). He has received the coveted Padma Shri for his excellent services; Dr. B.C. Roy National Award in the highest category of Medical man-cum-Statesman, I Rattan, DMA Ratna, Bharat Jyoti, Bhaskar, Delhi Rattan and Human Care Award of Excellence. He was appointed Personal Physician to the President of India in 2001.
