Kartik Rathor
Gurgaon
Kartik Rathor is 16 years old and is a resident of Gurgaon. Since the age of 5 years, he has been going through kidney disease. He was only three years old when he started showing the symptoms of kidney disease. Although he was all fine in the initial period of his birth, his parents were taught by the doctors that sometimes, the children get infected and affected by the diseases during the birth, or sometimes, it gets transferred from the parents genetically. By the time Kartik became 16 years old, the hospital became like a second home to him. He started having regular checkups and timely treatment for his kidney disease. But, before he could reach the Nephrologist in Gurgaon, he was not aware that he was going through severe kidney disease.
How did Kartik receive help?
Kartik knew that he was having his kidney dialysis every month since he attained his senses. It was like his routine to go to the hospital and receive dialysis.
On the other hand, Kartik became 13 years old and he was getting severely weak, so the doctors suggested that he should go through a kidney transplant. He was then listed on the waiting list for the kidney transplantation process.
One night before having kidney dialysis which was part of his routine life, Kartik received a phone call saying that he had got a kidney donor.
While hearing the news, the family got excited and waited for another call and postponed their child’s kidney dialysis thinking that it would affect the transplantation.
The parents waited for the whole day to receive the call. On calling back to the received number the assistant did not confirm any detail. On the other hand, Kartik was not feeling well. He immediately needed dialysis. So, he went to the Nephrologist in Gurgaon and got his dialysis started there.
While Kartik was in the operation theater for his dialysis, Kartik’s mother received a call and the assistant confirmed that Kartik had got a kidney donor who is ready to donate the kidney on an urgent basis.
At the age of 13, Kartik had his kidney transplant and he came to receive a few tips on the survival of humans on one kidney. Since he was fighting kidney issues since the age of 5, he knew how hard it was for him to survive without proper kidney care. However, it has been now 3 years and Kartik often used to visit the hospital for his complete checkup and to maintain the connection with the nurses, who all had a great part in his life.
