The portal vein is responsible for transports cholesterol in chylomicrons from the intestine to the liver. Chylomicrons are tiny balls that enclose fatty particles like cholesterol. The hepatic portal vein is one of the most important veins that helps in receiving blood from the body and transports it into the liver for filtration, detoxification and processing. This vein is part of our hepatic portal system that helps in control receiving all of the blood draining from the abdominal digestive tract, also from the pancreas, gallbladder, and spleen. ‘Hepatic’ means of or relating to the liver, therefore the hepatic portal vein is a blood vessel that brings nutrient-rich blood from the gastrointestinal tract and spleen to the liver.
