Dr Arup Ratan Dutta is a renowned physician in the field of Nephrology, Dialysis and Renal Transplantation. He has more than 25 years of experience and is currently the Chief Nephrologist at Fortis Hospital Anandapur in Kolkata. Dr Arup Ratan Dutta specializes in Dialysis and Transplantation. Dr Dutta is also credited for introducing Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis, CRRT and Plasmapheresis in the country. Since his main focus is the quality of Dialysis, many of his patients have been able to survive on long-term (read 10 to 12 years) dialysis.
After completing his MBBS, Dr Arup Ratan Dutta joined the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh from where he obtained MD in Internal Medicine and DM in Nephrology, in 1986 and 1989 respectively. He has held the several positions in the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN) including that of Scientific Committee member and Zonal representative and Secretary of the Eastern Zone. Dr. Dutta is one of the founder members of the Peritoneal Dialysis society of India (PDSI) and served as President. Dr Dutta was also the recipient of ‘Young Asia Investigator’ award at the International Society for Peritoneal dialysis conference at Seoul, Korea in 1998. He also did a visiting fellowship in Toronto Hospitals, Canada.
Dr Arup Ratan Dutta has been an instrumental person in bringing and practicing new technology like Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis, CRRT and Plasmapheresis in the region. The quality of dialysis has been his focus and he is credited to be having many patients on long-term dialysis (10 – 12 years).
