Who is a cardiac surgeon?
A doctor who specializes in surgical procedures of the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other organs in the chest is known as a cardiovascular or cardiothoracic surgeon. Patients with cardiovascular disease are referred to surgeons when surgery is to be performed. These surgeons operate on diseases in the organs inside the chest area. They repair the damage caused by cardiovascular diseases by operating inside the chest. Along with performing surgeries, these specialists diagnose diseases related to these organs.
What does a cardiac surgeon do?
Some cardiovascular diseases are best treated with surgery. This is decided after proper diagnosis by cardiologists. Cardiovascular patients are referred to surgeons depending upon the condition of their organs.
They perform different types of procedures. These include:
Coronary bypass surgery
Blockage of arteries in the heart
Surgery for tumors
Leaking heart valves
Is there a difference between cardiac surgeons and cardiologists?
Yes. Although both doctors specialize in studies and treatment of diseases and conditions relating to the heart and blood vessels, there is a big difference in their expertise. Cardiovascular surgeons and cardiologists have a different medical background.
Cardiac surgeons usually perform their procedures inside the chest whereas cardiologists are specialists in cardiovascular diseases. They perform procedures to diagnose and treat heart conditions. Cardiovascular or Cardiothoracic Surgeons treat problems in the organs by performing surgeries while Cardiologists treat cardiovascular patients medically without surgeries. Cardiothoracic surgeons limit their treatment of the patient within the time of operation and recovery while cardiologists also track the patients’ health for a longer period of time.

60 years old Anand Joshi (name changed) was suffering from an advanced heart condition and was advised an Atrial Septal Defect surgery by his doctor. My Joshi’s son Suraj (name changed) contacted Credihealth for hospital and doctor recommendations for the surgery in Mumbai.
How We Helped:
The medical expert recommended the best cardiac surgeons for the surgery and arranged the doctor appointment on an immediate basis. Mr Joshi, after his appointment, was diagnosed with blockages also. Now there was a need for both CABG and ASD surgery.
The cost quoted for the surgeries was on the higher end. Mr Suraj expressed concern due to money constraints. The expert calmed him down and also resolved some insurance related issues he had.
The medical expert spoke with the SPOC at the hospital for concessions. The expert was able to negotiate a sizable discount on the final bill.
Mr Joshi underwent his surgery and is doing much better now. The family was happy with the discounts and pleased with the expert’s dedication. Mr Suraj thanked the expert for the help and continues to stay in touch with Credihealth.
