Description

Squint surgery is performed to loosen or tighten muscles of eyes with an aim to correct the misalignment of the eyes. This surgery may also help the eye work in coordination. The procedure is also known as Strabismus Surgery.

There are different approaches for the procedure:

  • Recession procedure: This involves re-adjustment of the eye muscles to help realign the eyes.
  • Adjustable Suture Strabismus Surgery: As the name suggests, this type of surgery involves the re-adjustment of the eye muscles with the use of sutures. This type of surgery is done after a recession procedure.
Pre-Procedure

The doctor may recommend the following:

  • A thorough physical exam and routine tests.
  • Fasting for 8 to 10 hours prior to the surgery
Post-Procedure

After the procedure is complete, the patient may return home on the same day. Generally, the operated eye will be red for a couple of days after the surgery. Eye redness is expected to fade completely in 2 to 3 weeks.

Double vision and light sensitivity are commonly experienced after the procedure. The vision will become normal in 5 to 7 days.

Some patients may experience a noticable variation in moving eyes for a couple of days, as the brain learns to control the eye movements.

The doctor will recommend to use eye drops as advise and avoid contact with any chemicals (like soap, shampoo, chorine).
