Piles or Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum, which are similar to varicose veins. Hemorrhoids located inside the rectum are known as internal hemorrhoids and those developing under the skin around the anus is known as external hemorrhoids. Sometimes, especially during a bowel movement, the walls of these blood vessels stretch, making the veins bulge. They are one of the most common causes of rectal bleeding.
