The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia, and may take upto 2 hours. Depending on the amount of changes, the surgeon may use either of the following techniques
- Traditional Facelift – In this, the surgeon makes cut in the hairline beginning from the temple, following around the front ears and ending at the bottom scalp behind the ears.
- Limited Incision Facelift – The surgeon makes minor incisions in the hairline beginning from the temple to the front of the ears. Cuts may also be made either beneath the upper lip or the lower eyelids.
- Necklift – The surgeon makes incisions beginning from front of the earlobes to behind the ears in the lower scalp including area under the chin.
After making the incisions, your surgeon will sculpt or redistribute the excess fat from the face, neck and jowls. The surgeon may also use liposuction method to remove excess skin. Then the skin will then be draped over the newly formed facial lines. Tapes or stitches will be used to close the cuts.
