Dr. Chitrathara K

Dr Chitrathara K is the HOD and Senior Consultant of Surgical and Gynecological Oncology at VPS Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi, Kerala. She has 37 years of vast experience and specializes in gynecological, urological and breast cancer surgeries. Her qualifications include an MBBS from Kottayam Medical College, Karnataka (1979), MD Gynecology from Safdarjung Hospital, New delhi (1983) and MCh Genito and Urinary Surgery from Medical College, Trivandrum (1999). She also acquired DNB (General Surgery) from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in 2007. Furthermore, she took training in Oncology, Urology and Renal Transplantation. She became the first lady urologist in Kerala and started the first Gynaecological Cancer Unit in Kerala, located at Regional Care Centre Thiruvananthapuram.  The surgical procedures performed by Dr Chitrathara K include, Lymph Node Removal, Omentectomy, Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy, Unilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy, Radical Hysterectomy, Staging Surgery, Debulking Surgery and Total Hysterectomy. Some of her other areas of medical interest involve all kinds of gynecological cancer and breast cancer.  She acquired a fellowship of Association of Indian Surgeons (2012) and American College of Surgeons (2016). She is a member of Association of Gynaecological Oncology Society of India. She has been the  Chairperson of Oncology Committee Kerala Federation of obstet & gynecology (2013-2015),Secretary at  Cochin Obstet & gynecological Society (COGS) 2011-2012 and Editor of COGS (2014-15).  She has numerous publications and awards such as the National award of FOGSI 2014 “Dr. Duru Shah Distinguished Community Service Award” under her name.
