After completing his education at Kurnool Medical College, he pursued a master's degree in medicine at Madras Medical College and a doctorate in gastroenterology at PGIMER in Chandigarh. Before founding Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, a tertiary care gastro intestinal specialties hospital, he first served as a professor of gastroenterology at Andhra Pradesh Health Sciences. His main areas of interest in G.I. endoscopy, notably Therapeutic Pancreatio Biliary Endoscopy and Innovations in Transgastric Endoscopic Surgery, have been his main areas of research. He has written more than 670 articles for national and international peer-reviewed publications, provided chapters to 20 international textbooks on gastroenterology, and edited eight books on gastrointestinal endoscopy.
