Dr. Girinath MR is a cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgeon at Apollo Hospitals Chennai. He has more than 46 years of experience in the field of cardiac surgery. His area of expertise lies in Coronary Angioplasty, Bypass Surgery, Pacemaker Implantation and Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Dr. Girinath MR completed MBBS from University of Madras, MS in General Surgery, and M.Ch. in Cardiothoracic Surgery from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. Further, he has undertaken fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Melbourne and Indian Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr. Girinath MR is a recipient of several awards including Padma Bhushan Award in 1998, Dr. B C Roy National Award in 1997, and Lifetime Achievement Award. He has trained approximately 30 cardiac surgeons. He is the first physician who has performed over 29,000 open-heart surgeries in the last 16 years.

Dr. Girinath MR is an active member of Tamil Nadu Medical Council.
