Dr. Prashanta Kumar Ghosh

A Senior Consultant at the department of Cardiology in Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Ghosh has over 4 decades of rich professional experience in his field. Dr. Ghosh graduated from AFMC, Pune in 1972 with honours and joined the Army as a young doctor. Then began a wonderful association for 22 years with the Army every day of which he cherishes as it taught him so much about life. He did his postgraduation in  Medicine from AFMC in 1978 and once again passed with distinction and was  subsequently selected to be a lecturer in Medicine in the same college. In 1988, he  passed his DM Cardiology from the PGI, Chandigarh and served as a  clinical and  interventional cardiologist in the The Army Hospital R and R, Dehli.

He took premature retirement in 1994. After serving with Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for Two years he joined Indraprastha Apollo Hospital,Delhi, in  January 1997 where he continues to work till today. For the last 23 years, he has been practising excusively Non Invasive Cardiology.

His area of interest lies in specialises in Echocardiography, echocardiographic haemodynamics, stress echocardiography, Transoesophageal Echo cardiography, Foetal Echocardiography, 3 D echocardiography, carotid dopplers, Venous and arterial dopplers, Transcranial dopplers, renal dopplers, Transplant renal dopplers and all forms of abdominal dopplers and scrotal dopplers. 

He has very vast experience in all the above having been doing them for the last 23 years. Apollo Hospital is a centre of  excellence for non interventional cardiology. Daily 100-125 procedures are done.  Dr Ghosh has particular interest in High Altitude Medicine and Cardiology in which he has done original work while in the Army.

Besides a very heavy schedule in the hospital, there is keen interest in research activities and he has a number of papers published in Journals and presented in conferences. He is called all over the countrey to give lectures. Training juniors in the skills is an important part and students from India, the neighbouring countries and the middle east  and Africa and even England come to learn from him.
