Dr. R Padmakumar

Dr R Padmakumar is the Senior Consultant and HOD of Minimal Invasive Surgery at VPS Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi, Kerala. He has an experience of over 23 years in the field of Surgical Gastroenterology and Laparoscopic Surgery. He is famed as one of the best Obesity Surgeon in India and UAE. He is an expert Bariatric surgeon who is also highly skilled in endoscopic thyroidectomy, thoracoscopy, laparoscopic colorectal and hernia surgery. He graduated from Alleppey Medical College, Alleppey in 1993 and was awarded DNB from National Board of Examinations, New Delhi in 1997. He went on to complete Diploma in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in the year 2000. He has acheived several commendable feats in his medical career till date. He performed the world's first bariatric surgery with abdominoplasty, and first diabetes mellitus surgery in the state for the non-obese category. Dr R Padmakumar invented the MISII (Minimally Invasive Surgery for Ileal Interposition) HYBRID technique and also holds the world record on successful bowel surgery at 2gm Hb without blood transfusion. Dr R Padmakumar recieved the 'Excellence in Laparoscopy' Award in July, 2017 from Icons of Healthcare, Singapore. He acquired fellowships from Royal College of Surgeons, Association of Surgeons of India, International Medical Sciences Academy and International College of Laparoscopic Surgeons.
