Dr. Vijay Kher

Dr. Vijay Kher, a sagacious Nephrologist in India, is currently Chairman - Kidney and Urology Institute in Medanta The Medicity, Gurgaon. Dr. Kher has established the Academic and Clinical departments of Nephrology at Shere Kashmir, Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar, SGPGIMS in Lucknow, Apollo Hospital and Fortis Group of Hospitals in New Delhi and NCR; and currently established the division at Medanta Medicity in Delhi yet again. The title of Chairman, Special Task Force, created by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, was conferred upon him. He bagged another award for optimising immunosuppression in Kidney Transplantation in India (for cost vs. quality). Before becoming the Chairman of the Division of Nephrology at Medanta, he was the Director of Department of Nephrology & Transplant Medicine at Fortis Healthcare, a Senior Consultant & Co-ordinator of Department of Nephrology & Transplant Medicine at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Nephrology at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow. Dr. Kher's research interests comprise kidney transplantation (clinical immunosuppression, pre-emptive kidney transplantation & steroid-free immunosuppression, cost-containment), progression of renal disease, acute kidney injury and glomerulonephritis. An astute clinician, a dedicated teacher and a keen researcher Dr. Kher combines these assets with his friendly and inclusive demeanour to inspire the Nephrology fraternity in India by his professional dedication, academic excellence and social responsibility. He has been awarded fellowships of National Academy of Medical Sciences, Royal College of Physicians Edinburg and the Indian Society of Nephrology. Dr. Kher has published more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 24 book chapters and has edited five books. He is DM (Nephrology) from PGIMER in Chandigarh, MNAMS (Nephrology) in National Board of Examinations, India; and a Clinical Fellow of Nephrology & Transplantation at the University of Cincinnati, Medical Centre in Ohio (U.S.A.).
