Most common gynaecological problems in Hyderabad

Gynecology is a medical practice which relates to the health of the female reproductive system (vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries). There are several gynecological problems and disorders that women can go through. Some of these problems can be treated through medications alone, and some might require surgical interventions. According to gynecologists in Hyderabad, some of the most common gynecological problems faced by women include:

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) relates to disturbance in the hormone levels of women in the reproductive age. Women who suffer from PCOS secrete more than normal amounts of androgen, a male hormone. They also tend to skip periods or have a prolonged menstrual period. Furthermore, involves formation of cysts (follicles) in the ovaries and makes the process of ovulation difficult. It poses a risk for other medical concerns such as heart diseases and type 2 diabetes. Though not completely curable, its symptoms can be kept under control through medications.

Menstrual cramps

Menstrual cramps, also known as dysmenorrhea, are throbbing pain-like sensations in the lower abdominal part of the body that women go through right before and/or during their menstrual periods. For some women, the degree of the pain is milder, while for others the cramps are acutely painful and might involve nausea, dizziness, loose stools and headache. Menstrual cramps tend to weaken in intensity and frequency when they are not caused by any underlying condition. Women are advised to see a gynecologist if they experience painful menstrual cramps that disrupt their routine once a month, if the cramps worsen progressively and they start having more severe menstrual cramps after 25 years of age. Some of the home remedies for menstrual cramps are :

  • Supply heat to the affected area

  • Any physical activity, like exercise

  • Reducing stress and resting

  • Over-the-counter pain medicines

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition where endometrium, the tissue that lines the inside of a female’s uterus, starts growing outside it. It causes extremely painful menstrual cramps and makes getting pregnant difficult. Although it is not completely clear as to what causes endometriosis, some doctors suggest that menstrual blood that contains endometrial cells may flow back through the fallopian tube, into the pelvic cavity where cells stick to the organs. This process is also known as retrograde menstruation. Genes may also play a role in determining whether you have chances of developing endometriosis or not.

Ovarian cancer

The female reproductive system consists of two ovaries that produce ova (eggs) and release it into the fallopian tube. Ovarian cancer is the type of cancer that begins in the ovary. Early stage ovarian cancer is comparatively easier to treat and can be cured successfully through chemotherapy, surgery and medications. Some of the risk factors of ovarian cancer include inherited mutation in genes and older age.

Cervical cancer

Cervix the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina and cervical cancer is the type of cancer that begins in the cells of the cervix. HPV (human papillomavirus) plays a significant role in causing cervical cancer. Though many people are exposed to HPV, the majority fights off the virus and does not develop a condition. In some cases, the immune system is not able to eliminate the virus and it results in affecting the cells of the body.
