The bone marrow is located inside the bones. It is the fatty tissue that produces blood cells. Bone marrow also consists of stem-cells. These stem-cells are immature cells that form blood.
A bone marrow transplant is a procedure in which unhealthy bone marrow is replaced with a healthy one. The health of bone marrow may be affected by some disease, infection, or chemotherapy. In a bone marrow transplant, blood stem-cells are transplanted to promote the growth of new marrow. Basically, damaged cells are replaced with healthy cells in a transplant.
The blood cells may be damaged due to various reasons. These include chronic infections, diseases, or cancer treatments. Some conditions that lead to the requirement of a bone marrow transplant are:
Aplastic Anemia
Cancers that affect the bone marrow
Thalassemia
Blood Cancers
Other genetic diseases
A bone marrow transplant can be a risky surgical procedure. A number of complications are associated with it. Some of the risks involved are mentioned below:
Infections
Cell Failure
Cataracts
Infertility
Nausea and Vomiting
Diarrhea
Low Cells count
Respiratory diseases
Graft- versus- host- disease (GVHD)
Organ Damage

Sofia
Mumbai, India
Mr Atif (name changed), a resident of Hyderabad contacted Credihealth, seeking help for his grand daughter Sofia (name changed) ‘s cancer treatment in Mumbai. Sofia was recommended a bone marrow transplant (BMT) and had to get some specific medical test which wasn’t easily available. She was also facing some discomfort in her stomach which required immediate medical attention.
How we Helped:
Our medical expert arranged calls from different hospitals in Hyderabad as well as Mumbai for the specific medical test for the BMT.
The expert helped with the admission process in Mumbai and helped them reduce the cost of hospital stay as they were financially weak, by speaking with the hospital administrators.
The medical expert provided constant guidance and information regarding the medical tests, surgery, report details at the hospital, regularly followed up with Mr Atif and was available for any and every help the family required.
Sofia is doing much better now. Mr Atif was extremely happy with Credihealth’s dedication and timely services. They continue to stay in touch with Credihealth for all their medical requirements and recommend them to their near and dear ones.
