Had a little problem with the staff at the hospital. I had to wait for over 40 minutes and people who came after me were being attended first. I did not like that at all. My treatment for IVF has started and I am hoping for the best.

Dr Pai is friendly and knows how to handle critical situations. I had lost all hope when I came to dr pai for the IVF treatment. He made sure that I didn't feel disheartened and he gave proper time and explained all the procedures properly. No complaints from my end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long is the procedure?

A:

The first cycle of IVF takes almost six weeks to complete. The couple has to wait a few weeks for the eggs to mature. After that, the couple needs to visit the doctor’s clinic to retrieve their eggs and have them fertilized.

Q: When can you take the pregnancy test after the IVF?

A:

After 10 to 14 days of egg retrieval, your doctor will schedule a blood test. This blood test report will find and measure the HCG hormone (pregnancy hormones). You should not use any pregnancy kits at your homes.

Q: What is the post-procedure of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)?

A:

The patient can continue her daily activities after the transfer of an embryo. Try to avoid vigorous activities that can cause any kind of discomfort. After this procedure, women may have the following side effects:

  • The appearance of clear or bloody liquid for some time after the procedure. This happens because of the swabbing of the cervix due to high estrogen levels.

  • Mild bloating

  • Constipation

  • Breast tenderness due to high estrogen levels.

In case you feel severe pain after the procedure, call your doctor immediately. The doctor will provide you medication to subdue these symptoms.

Q: What happens during In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)?

A:

IVF is a lengthy procedure that needs time to be successful. There are several steps in IVF.

Initially, medicines will be prescribed to stimulate egg production. This procedure needs multiple eggs, as some eggs may not get fertile after retrieval. The specialist may advise a transvaginal ultrasound to examine the ovaries and blood test to see the hormone levels.

Secondly, the eggs are retrieved through a minor surgical procedure. Your doctor will prescribe some medications to reduce potential discomfort.

After that, the male is asked to produce a sample of sperm. These sperms are prepared to combine with the eggs.

Then the sperm and eggs are mixed and stored in a laboratory dish to encourage fertilization. In certain cases, an intracytoplasmic sperm injection may be used if the fertility level is low.

The embryos are transferred into the woman's uterus within three to five days of retrieval and fertilization. This is done with the help of a catheter. It is inserted into the uterus to transfer the embryos. This process could be painful for a few patients. Once the procedure is successful, the implementation occurs within six to ten days of egg retrieval.
