Dr. Naresh Bhat is a Chief - Gastroenterology at Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore. He is a renowned Medical Gastroenterologist in Bangalore having an experience of more than 25 years of clinical practice. Apart from Aster CMI Hospital, he is also functioning as Chief of GI Services at Columbia Asia Hospitals in Bangalore and as a Chairman of the Department of Medicine at St. Philomena's Hospital (Bangalore), where he has been working since 1986.
Dr. Bhat was also instrumental in setting up tertiary referral units at St. Philomena's Hospital and Bangalore Hospital. These are equipped with an active Endoscopy unit, conducting a large number of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including biliary and pancreatic work. Oesophageal, anorectal manometry and pH studies augment the Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology setup. Dr. Naresh Bhat currently heads "GI Associates", which is a group of four Gastroenterologists in practice. He is also Mentor of a multidisciplinary team involved in liver transplant.
In the career span of over 25 years, Dr. Bhat has held various prominent positions and among these are Chairman - NBI Group India and Chairman - IBD Mentors Group. He is also the founder of the Bangalore Gastroenterology Group in 1989 and has been actively coordinating its activities as Secretary since then. He constantly makes great contributions to the medical society and has several research papers published/presented at/in national and international conferences/journals.
Apart from clinical practice, Dr. Bhat is passionate about teaching and training and is presently involved in evolving a training and credentialing system in GI Endoscopy for the Indian Endoscopy Society. He has trained a large number of postgraduates in Gastroenterology and Medicine over the past 15+ years. Dr. Bhat is the Coordinator for the IBD Mentors Group in India, which has the aim of educating and training Gastroenterologists in the treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
