The Truth About Increasing Baldness

It’s all around us.

There is no escape.

From receding hairlines to bristling hairlines to a clean, shiny pate of what once used to be a thick mane…baldness seems to be chasing men and women like there’s no tomorrow. What was known to be an inevitability that came with the autumn years, is threateningly close to our spring days and men and women – neither has been spared!

Hair experts and trichologists today are all quick to point out that premature baldness is more a sign of the ages, than anything else.

Too much physical or mental stress, unhealthy eating habits, vices like smoking and drinking and of course, pollution – each has played its part equally in this game.

Like everything else, hair needs energy to grow and sustain itself.

The Coenzyme Q10, is what helps the scalp produce this energy. But with an abnormal amount of stress in our lives, the process of oxidation has systematically worked towards destroying Coenzyme Q10, apart from many other anti-oxidants – resulting in increased hair fall.

If you need healthy food, well, so does your hair. Experts and scientists have stressed long and hard on the importance of nutrition for healthy hair growth. The protein keratin is what hair is essentially made of, which is why indulging in a high-protein diet is of primary importance. If your body is deprived of a rich protein intake, then it is forced to make whatever little protein is available for other, possibly life-saving purposes, thereby leaving almost nothing for your hair.

While smoking and excessive drinking can benefit no one anyway, if you need more reason, they are speeding up the balding process as well. While smoking gets in the way of oxygen and nutrients reaching your hair follicles, excessive alcohol leads to dehydration…making the body unable to absorb key minerals and nutrients.

In the case of women, in addition to all these factors, an overdose of styling, colouring and use of chemicals is making the situation worse than it ever has been.

Can I stop hair loss?

While the picture looks pretty bleak – a few lifestyle changes however and redemption doesn’t seem too far away.

Make sure you get at least eight hours of good sleep, enough drinking water at regular intervals throughout the day, a protein-rich diet, regular oil nourishment and enough relaxation and exercise routines to kill the stress.

Well, if science is to be believed, then voila! We may soon be flaunting our tresses once again!
